Car-Bomb Explodes in Wealthy Basque Neighborhood.

A car-bomb exploded at 20:20 last night lightly injuring eight people in the neighborhood of Neguri in the affluent town of Getxo near the city of Bilbo in Bizkaia. A caller to the Basque newspaper Gara and to police warned that a bomb would explode and provided the exact location, saying he was from the Basque liberation organization ETA and that "the attack was aimed at the oligarchy", according to Gara. Police were cordoning off the area when the bomb exploded, local news reported. According to news agencies, the car-bomb was placed in front of house of Spain's ruling Popular Party senator Pilar Aresti, who was at home at the time of the explosion but was not hurt. Spanish television news said the explosion from the car sent a ball of flame into the air, and TV stations showed images of scorched walls peppered with shrapnel. The car loaded with explosives damaged the house of senator Pilar Aresti and several neighboring houses in the wealthy Neguri neighborhood, known to be populated by some of the leading members of the Basque business elite. This was the second car-bomb in a month in Getxo, where a car-bomb exploded in June 25, lightly injuring six people. ETA has been blamed for at least six attacks in the last 10 days in various parts of the Spanish state including the Basque region.
